PUBLIC ENGLISH TEST SYSTEM
The (PETS) exam which is conducted by the Chinese ministry of education is
an aptitude test that examines your actual communication ability in English.
The test mainly examines listening comprehension, language knowledge,
reading comprehension, and written and spoken English.The test at each level
includes written test and spoken test. The levels of the test include level 1-B,
and levels 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Requirements for each level are as the following:
Level 1-B: A subsidiary level of level 1, emphasizing speaking ability and the need for everyday communication, catering to the general English popularization.
Level 1: Primary stage, a little bit higher than the English level of middle school in the nine-year compulsory education.
Level 2: Lower intermediate level, equivalent to the English level of excellent graduates of high school of our country.
Level 3: Intermediate level, equivalent to the level of two-year college or self-study at the same English level.
Level 4: Upper intermediate level, equivalent to the level of English as general education of three or four year senior college, or self-study at the same level.
Level 5:The highest level, equivalent to the level of the graduates of two-year English program.
